In Asheville, a new visitor center operated by the Asheville Convention and Visitors Bureau, in association with the Asheville Chamber of Commerce and the Buncombe County Tourism Development Authority, opened downtown in 2006. It's one of the best visitor centers in the South, with interactive displays on hotels, a bank of computers for visitor use, tons of brochures, helpful and friendly staff, and plenty of free parking. The Cherokee Visitors Center provides information on the reservation. North Carolina High Country Host is a complete information center for the High Country counties of Watauga, Ashe, and Avery. Smoky Mountain Host of North Carolina has information about the state's seven westernmost counties.
