The Mountain Farm Museum at the Oconaluftee Visitors Center is perhaps the best re-creation anywhere of a mountain farmstead. The nine farm buildings, all dating from around 1900, were moved here from locations within the park. Besides a furnished two-story log cabin, you'll see a barn, apple house, corn crib, smokehouse, chicken coop, and other outbuildings. In season, corn, tomatoes, pole beans, squash, and other mountain crops are grown in the garden. The museum celebrated its 50th year of operation in 2004.
