When it's 95°F and the paperwork is piling up, Snowbird is the kind of mountain lodge you daydream about. The main lodge, built in 1941 and now in the National Register of Historic Places, has two massive stone fireplaces, solid chestnut beams across the ceiling, and beautiful views across the valley. If you run out of things to do, there are 10,000 books in the library. The restaurant serves "rustic" meals like fresh trout with grilled vegetable salsa. For more luxury than the main lodge rooms offer, choose a room in the Chestnut Lodge or a king suite in a separate cottage. Some rooms have whirlpool baths and fireplaces.
