An institution in Bryson City for eight decades, the Fryemont Inn is on the National Register of Historic Places. The lodge exterior is bark, rooms in the main lodge are paneled in real chestnut, and the lobby has a fireplace big enough for 8-foot logs. If you need more luxury, choose one of the suites with fireplaces and air-conditioning. The restaurant ($-$$$), serving Southern fare, is open to the public for breakfast and dinner.
