The popular train rides of the Great Smoky Mountains Railroad include four regular excursions from Dillsboro, along with four originating in Bryson City, and several special trips. Diesel-electric or steam locomotives go through Nantahala Gorge or along the Tuckasegee River. Open-sided cars or standard coaches are ideal for picture taking as the mountain scenery glides by. Some rides include a meal: on Friday evenings there's a mystery theater train with dinner, and on Saturday a gourmet dinner train.
