There are 30 mi of regularly stocked trout streams on the Cherokee Indian Reservation (828/497-5201 or 800/438-1601). To fish in tribal water, you need a tribal fishing permit, available at nearly two dozen reservation businesses. The $7 permit is valid for one day and has a creel limit of 10. A five-day permit is $28. Fishing is permitted from late March to October.
