Join a ranger and the members of the Smoky Mountain Astronomical Society (www.smokymtnastro.org) for some stargazing, where you'll learn about the stars and galaxies. The annual star party at Cades Cove, usually in October or early November, attracts as many as 800 people. It begins a little after sunset at the Cades Cove orientation shelter, and last about two hours. Telescopes are provided. You may also want to bring binoculars. The Smoky Mountain Astronomical Society
also has regular star parties near Look Rock on the Foothills Parkway and at Unicoi Crest on the Cherohala Skyway.
