Great Smoky Mtns. National Park Sights

Andrews Bald

Updated 10/11/2012

Fodor's Review

Getting to Andrews Bald isn't easy. You have to walk the rocky Forney Ridge Trail some 1.8 mi one-way, with an elevation gain of almost 600 feet, the equivalent of a 60-story skyscraper. The payoff is several acres of grassy bald at more than 5,800 feet, with stunning views of Lake Fontana and the southeastern Smokies. This is one of only two balds in the Smokies (the other is Gregory Bald on the Tennessee side) that the park service keeps clear.

Sight Information
