1. Old Style Saloon No. 10
Although it carries the name of the bar where Wild Bill was shot and also purports to have the chair he was shot in, this Old West saloon--style establishment is not actually on the site where the shooting occurred (that was at 624 Main St.); nevertheless, it's filled with fascinating artifacts making it "the world's only museum with a bar." One of Deadwoods' best restaurants, the Deadwood Social Club, is upstairs.

2. Sawyer Brewing Company
Few if any nightspots in the Black Hills can beat the atmosphere at Sawyer Brewing Company, with its modern, sawmill-inspired building and massive outdoor patio, which opens onto a greenway and walking path alongside Spearfish Creek. Besides the craft beer brewed on-site, there's also pizza made in a brick oven. This is one of the newest areas of the city, where great care has been shown to incorporate the natural surroundings.

3. Belle Joli' Winery Tasting Room
The family-owned Belle Joli' Winery, based in Sturgis, grows and produces its wines in the Black Hills and utilizes a small downtown Deadwood facility with an outdoor patio to expose visitors to its offerings. The main Sparkling House facility is in Sturgis.

4. Buffalo Bodega
Expect a family crowd in the day and a rowdier bunch at night in this saloon, where most evenings you can listen to live country or rock music. The entertainment moves outdoors in summer, when bands play in the stockade section. The Bodega has a rough past; from the 1890s until 1980, the upper floors were used as a brothel.

5. Buglin' Bull Restaurant & Sports Bar
Featuring a craft beer brewed exclusively for them by the Mount Rushmore Brewing Company, the owners of the Buglin' Bull (named for the sound made by a male elk) also offer a wide selection of other beers, spirits, cocktails, margaritas, martinis, wine, and bourbon. It's all served up in a bustling atmosphere at a renovated downtown building with a bar, tin ceiling, exposed brick walls, and a large outdoor deck on an upper floor.

6. His & Hers Ale House and Wine Bar
This friendly pub is owned by a local couple in a historic former bank building, where the old vault is now a wine cellar and the menu is full of locally brewed beers, wines, and pub food. As the owners describe it, there's a drink for every taste here, from Coors to Chardonnay.

7. Killian's Food & Drink
The fun-loving, adventurous, outdoorsy side of Spearfish shines through at Killian's, where the wood on the walls is imbued with character, bicycles are used as decoration, and the carefully curated beer and wine lists are ever evolving. A local chef sources local and exotic ingredients to create creative dishes, including some vegetarian options, which add surprising sophistication to the publike atmosphere.

8. Lewie's Burgers & Brews
One of several roadhouse-style establishments in the Lead area, Lewie's is popular among snowmobilers (who can ride a trail right to it) and motorcycle riders joyriding through the Black Hills during the annual Sturgis Motorcycle Rally. The rest of the year, it's a place for anybody to unwind with a burger and a brew.

9. Mount Rushmore Brewing Company
Using malt from North Dakota and hops from the Midwest and Pacific Northwest, this brewery creates a flagship line of four beers with names inspired by the four presidents on Mount Rushmore: American Fabius, a blond ale; Long Tom, an American IPA; Trust Buster, a Scottish export; and Rail Splitter, a London-style porter. All the beers can be enjoyed on-site in the taproom. The expansive facility also include a restaurant and event space.

10. Silverado
Bars/PubsSprawling over half a city block at the top of Main Street, and including the historic Franklin Hotel across the street, the Silverado is among Deadwood's largest gaming establishments. Although the wood paneling and brass accents around the bars recall Deadwood's Wild West past, the red carpets, velvet ropes, and bow-tie-clad staff give the place modern polish.

11. Spearfish Creek Wine Bar
Although not actually alongside the creek as its name implies, this quiet spot has a wood privacy fence surrounding the outdoor seating area, and vines growing around the entrance. It's a great place to enjoy a relaxing glass of wine on a warm summer evening. There's also a small indoor seating area, and often live, acoustic music from local and regional performers.

12. The Sled Haus
With a style that's a cross between an American roadhouse and a German beer garden, the Sled Haus caters, as the name implies, to snowmobilers looking for hearty pub food (including German-inspired choices such as bratwurst). There's also a large selection of beer and wine.
