$$, Deadwood
Fodor's Review:
Deadwood Gulch Resort. Pine-clad hills, a small creek, and a deck with mountain views are at your disposal at this family-style resort about a mile from downtown. A trolley stops here to take you to sites in Deadwood. The Creekside Restaurant (-$$) serves hearty breakfasts and some of the best burgers in town. The giant salads also are favorites, largely because of the side of sunflower bread and the homemade apricot dressing. Pros: Being away from downtown offers smaller crowds and a more dedicated staff, one of the few properties in town with a fitness center, on-site restaurant is a local favorite. Cons: Travelers have to board the city trolley or find parking downtown, the latter of which can be difficult.
