High Plains Western Heritage Center

Fodor's Review:

Founded to honor the pioneers and Native Americans of a region now covered by five states—the Dakotas, Wyoming, Montana, and Nebraska—the center features artifacts such as an original Deadwood-Spearfish stagecoach and life-size dioramas of an American cattle drive. Outdoor exhibits include a log cabin, a one-room schoolhouse, herds of bison and longhorn steers, antique farm equipment, and, in summer, an entire antique farm. Often on the calendar are cowboy poetry, live music, festivals, reenactments, talks on area ghost towns, and the Campfire Series of historical talks.
