Riverbanks Zoological Park and Botanical Garden

Riverbanks Zoological Park and Botanical Garden Review

This zoo contains more than 2,000 animals and birds in natural habitats. Walk along pathways and through landscaped gardens to see elephants, Siberian tigers, koalas, and penguins. The South American primate collection has won international acclaim, and the park is noted for its success in breeding endangered species. The Aquarium–Reptile Complex has South Carolina, desert, tropical, and marine specimens. At the Bird Pavilion you view birds and wildlife under a safari-like tent. You can ride the carousel and also take a tram over the Saluda River to the 70-acre botanical gardens. A forested section with walking trails has spectacular views of the river and passes Civil War ruins.Stop by the Saluda Factory Interpretive Center for more information about the site's history and its connection to the Civil War.
