This 41-mi-long lake has swimming, boating, picnicking, and superb fishing. There are many marinas and campgrounds in the area. A 1.7 mile pedestrian walkway stretches accross the Dreher Shoals Dam offering panoramic views. The lake is off Interstate 26, 15 mi west of Columbia. In summer a massive flock of purple martins turns the sky nearly black at sunset, when the birds return to their roost on Bomb Island.
