Midway between New York and Miami, the Grand Strand isn't connected directly by any interstate highways but is within an hour drive of Interstate 95, Interstate 20, Interstate 26, and Interstate 40. U.S. 17 is the major north-south coastal route through the Strand.
Hilton Head Island is 40 mi east of Interstate 95 (Exit 28 off Interstate 95S, Exit 5 off Interstate 95N). If you're heading to the southern end of the island, your best bet to save time and avoid traffic is to take the Toll Expressway. The cost is $1 each way. Beaufort is 25 mi east of Interstate 95, on U.S. 21.
