This resort sits on the island made famous in Prince of Tides, with 3½ miles of miles of broad, white beach and unspoiled sea island scenery. It has long been known as one of the more affordable and casual of the island resorts. It is private and gated, a safe haven, where kids are allowed to be free, to go crabbing at low tide, bike the trails, and swim, swim, swim. Families love the narrated nature cruise and love Camp Fripp, the nature center, not to mention all the teen activities. Most residents are retired and happily tool around in golf carts. Golf carts, mopeds, and bikes can be rented. This is no swinging-singles destination, but it is a good getaway for sporty couples who like to kayak and canoe. Of course, you can play highly-rated golf or tennis and go fishing out of the marina as well. There are more than 200 individual villas here insead of a hotel, though there are a variety of small efficiencies. There's a pavilion with shops and a choice of restaurants often with live entertainment, from the rollicking Bonito Boathouse to the sophisticated Beach Club.
