JB's Smokeshack

JB's Smokeshack Review

When you come to the sign of the pig (not to mention other rudimentary signs stuck in the ground like "Catfish"), turn in for one of the area's best barbecue joints. At this funky find, you will see evidence of the diverse crowd, beat-up pickup trucks to new BMWs—the latter often driven by guests at nearby Kiawah Island. (JB's will deliver out there for $35.) Most people have the buffet, which consists of barbecue pork, apple-wood-smoked chicken, and all of the Southern veggies—usually including okra gumbo, butter beans, and coleslaw—plus desserts like banana pudding; it's all for one (very) low price. Barbecue connoisseurs know that JB's takes the big prizes at the competitions and that the ribs and the Angus beef brisket are top-shelf. To further flavor the smoky meats, sauces are served on the side. Just come early, because dinner is over by 8:30.
