Hearty soups and pastas, fresh cheeses and breads, and great wines make this a slice of Tuscany. This trattoria has an Italian-born chef whose dishes couldn't be more authentic: braised lamb shank, porcini-mushroom ravioli, baby arugula salad. An expansion to this charming old building, which has lots of character, added streetfront views. The animated bar is popular with locals.

To my regret I have to agree with the one low review. The food is average at best. Of my duck the breast was OK but tepid, but the leg was so overcooked that it was brittle. The balsamic reduction was so sour that they must have used the supermarket variety. On top of that they're running a wine scam. They have a 2003 Ornellaia on the list for 47 $, when the retail price is at least 97 $! Of course, if you order it they have just run out of it, but they have a Sardegnan cabernet of the same quality and price. If you then order the Rosso di Montalcino from Poggione, you are warned that that is very dry, whereas it of course is a nice and supple wine.
