Seabrook Island Club combines resort-like perks—from various restaurants and a huge fitness center to tennis courts, pools, etc.—with the benefits of a stand-alone beach rental (convenient parking, a full kitchen, etc.).
Fodor's Expert Review
Roughly 45 minutes southwest of downtown Charleston is Seabrook Island—one of the most remote islands in the area. With two championship golf courses, a bevy of tennis courts, and four miles of pristine coastline accessible via nine boardwalks, the gated Seabrook Island Club is a haven for active families looking to immerse themselves in the Lowcountry (wildlife spotting is commonplace: look out for dolphins, alligators, white-tailed deer, and even bobcats). Roughly 350 fully equipped rental properties are available—including one- to six-bedroom villas, cottages, townhomes, and houses—with daily costs that are comparable to and sometimes even less than hotel rates downtown.

As all are individually owned, the number, size, and style of bedrooms varies greatly from unit to unit. Rental properties are easily searchable via Seabrook Island Club’s website.
Bathroom
Ditto for bathrooms. Do your research online before booking.
Lobby
Gather and lounge in the Beach Club, which boasts a game room for rainy days and the Seabrook Shoppe, where you can stock up on sunscreen and beachwear. Another popular common space is the Lake House, a wellness facility where photography and bridge groups often meet.
You Should Know Prior to your trip, you’ll need to order an amenity card to have access to the island’s facilities. Also, it’s a cashless island, so you’ll put a credit card on file and meals and services will be charged accordingly.
Pool
The Beach Club pool is large and lively, with piped-in music and a mix of families, couples, and friends of all ages. Its beachfront location and ample chaises allow for sunbathing as you overlook the ocean. The Lake House also offers an indoor lap pool and less crowded outdoor pool with a calmer crowd.
Gym
Find a fully loaded indoor fitness center, complete with rowing machines and stationary bikes, as well as group exercise classes and yoga at the Lake House. Golf courses and tennis courts will help keep you active, as well.
Tip Seabrook Island boasts a full-service Equestrian Center, which offers guided horseback riding on the beach and along shady island trails.
Dining
Within the club, there are four restaurant options, ranging from super casual poolside eats (Cap’n Sam’s Poolside Grill) to formal dining at The Palmetto Room, where you’ll find upscale Southern fare.
You Should Know Other than a Sunday brunch, restaurants don’t offer breakfast. Also, each eatery has a dress code, ranging from cover-ups and flip-flops at the Pelican’s Nest to business casual at The Palmetto Room.
Drinking
Head to any of the island’s restaurants to get your drink on. You can also order a libation at the Locker Room Lounge’s full-service bar.
