Coast Bar & Grill

$$-$$$$, Seafood, Upper King

User Rating: **** 3.8

Fodor's Review:

Tucked off a little alley in a restored warehouse, Coast has pared-down trappings like exposed brick-and-wood floors. Fried fare and heavy sauces are on the menu, but lighter dishes such as the fish tacos and ceviche make it a standout. The best choices include oak-grilled fish and lobster served with pineapple-chili salsa, white-wine-and-lemon sauce, or garlic butter.

Over Rated

The food was barely above edible. The seared tuna was uninspired. The beans accompanying my wife's red snapper were not listed on the menu and when presented were horrible. The venue is too large to serve well prepared food. Service was average and slow. Certainly not deserving of a rating above 2 or 3.

Simply the Best

I first had dinner at the Coast 3 years ago and fell in love with the place. At that time I had the Pecan Encrusted Red Snapper. It was incredible! Since then I have checked the menu online several times always intending to go back. The menu changes frequently but when the Red Snapper changed I was heartbroken. Last week I finally made it back to the restaurant after traveling 1000 miles to get there on a motorcycle and had the Red Snapper Almondine. It was also wonderful but the most amazing thing was the employees. I believe it was the manager came outside before it was time to open and decided it was too humid for us to sit out there and told us to go on into the bar. Then the bartender did not know how to fix the drink I asked for so he called someone to find out and created it for me, then the best of all, the manager told the chef the story of our 1000 miles trip just to eat the Red Snapper and he personally came out and met us, wrote out the recipe for me and even came back to ensure the food was good. What a wonderful, friendly place!!!!!
