Why We Like It

For those looking to immerse themselves in historic Charleston as well as today’s thriving food, bev, and nightlife scene, this Courtyard’s location couldn’t be better, making it a smart choice for travelers wishing to spend their money on experiences rather than a ritzy hotel room.

Fodor's Expert Review

Situated in the heart of downtown—just across the street from the verdant Marion Square, where farmers markets and festivals are held year-round—The Courtyard Charleston Historic District puts you within walking distance of both the history-laden district south of Calhoun Street and the lively food-and-bev scene on upper King. In addition to its stellar location, you’ll find a heated outdoor pool and hospitable service.

Tip A boon for families and larger groups, connecting rooms are available.

Room

Bold reds and gold color the carpeted rooms, which are clad in generic wooden furnishings. Larger suites include two rooms—one with a king or two queens and another with a sectional sofa bed. Blackout curtains, sound-proof windows, flat-screen TVs, and an ergonomic work station offer modern creature comforts while canvas photos of the Holy City inject a touch of personality into the space.

You Should Know Some rooms are showing wear and tear in the form of stained carpet, chipped furniture, and peeling wallpaper.

Bathroom

Bathrooms are surprisingly spacious, with double vanities in larger suites. Certain rooms offer fresh-feeling white-tiled walk-in showers while others include tub-shower combos.

Lobby

Helpful attendants greet you at sleek reception stations—from there, take a load off in the colorful lobby, where natural light pours in and modern-style seating is plentiful.

Tip Still like to travel with a hard copy of your boarding pass? The lobby includes a once high-tech, now slightly outdated (yet charming in a vintage way) boarding-pass printing station.

Pool

An open-air heated pool is tucked onto the ground floor and surrounded by a privacy wall. Chaises dress the otherwise Spartan space.

Gym

The roomy gym stocked with ample equipment will please fitness fanatics.

Dining

Bistro 2.0 sells breakfast sammies and seasonal treats like avocado toast alongside Starbucks espresso drinks. Dinner options range from tasty flatbreads and flavorful salads (like an Asian chicken salad or Southwestern cobb) to more filling entrees like herb-roasted chicken and roasted veggie pasta.

Drinking

You can order wines by the glass, imported and domestic brews, and basic cocktails from Bistro 2.0, too.
