Set back off Route 1, this early-19th-century farmhouse inn and restaurant in the village of Shelter Harbor is a quiet retreat 5 miles from downtown Westerly. First established in 1911 as a music colony, the inn has lovely grounds with two paddle-tennis courts, a six-wicket croquet court, and a bocce and putting green. A third-floor deck with hot tub offers great views of Block Island. You get weekday parking passes to a nearby private beach in Weekapaug and a complimentary
shuttle service on weekends. Many rooms have fireplaces, and some also have decks. A very good breakfast is included in room rates.
