Fodor's Review

The city's wealthiest families lived along the "mile of history" during the 18th and early 19th centuries. Home to a high concentration of Colonial architecture, Benefit Street passes through the campuses of Brown University and the Rhode Island School of Design. Between mid-June and mid-October, the Rhode Island Historical Society conducts 90-minute tours ($14) of the area. Tours depart the John Brown House Museum Tuesday–Saturday at 11 am.
