Belcourt Castle

Belcourt Castle Review

Richard Morris Hunt based his design for this 60-room mansion, built in 1894 for wealthy bachelor Oliver H.P. Belmont, on the hunting lodge of Louis XIII. The home, privately owned by the Tinney family since 1956, has been up for sale since 2009, when it was listed for $7.2 million. Harle Tinney, the sole surviving member of the family, continues to operate the mansion in the meantime. It is filled with treasures from more than 30 countries. Admire the stained glass and carved wood throughout. Don't miss the Golden Coronation Coach and inquire about the haunted chair and suit of armor. The mansion's 5 pm Thursday and Saturday ghost tours are great fun.
