Book NowFrancis Malbone House Review
The design of this stately painted-brick house is attributed to the architect responsible for the Touro Synagogue and the Redwood Library. A lavish inn with period reproduction furnishings, the 1760 structure was tastefully doubled in size in the mid-1990s. The rooms in the main house overlook the courtyard, which has a fountain, or look across the street to the harbor; all rooms have working fireplaces, iPod-docking stations, and bathrooms with Jacuzzis. Breakfast is served in a domed ceiling dining room. The owners also run the lovely Hilltop Inn, at the foot of Bellevue Avenue, a handsome Arts and Crafts house with similarly elegant rooms.

Vermicelli, from Connecticut
We have gone to Newport many times during the off season and there is a reason that we always stay at the Malbone - it is superb! The rooms are elegant and spacious, the staff is gracious and the breakfasts are simply delicious. The innkeepers could not be more helpful. Each room is uniquely decorated in a lovely colonial style. The sitting rooms are lovely and comfortable. And, at no time is there a feeling of pretentiousness or "stuffiness".
And, you can't beat the location. It is on Thames close enough to shops and restaurants so that you don't have to worry about driving or parking. However, it is not so close to to the downtown/center that you hear a lot of traffic and noise.
I highly recommend staying at the Francis Malbone House.
