Grandeur and comfort come in equal supply at this swank Victorian home on a tree-lined street near Cliff Walk. On the walls are more than 100 paintings by artist Beatrice Turner, who lived in the house for many years and painted hundreds of self portraits. All rooms have one to three fireplaces and are furnished with Victorian antiques. The Governor's Suite (named for Governor Thomas Swann, of Maryland, who built the home in 1876) has a two-sided fireplace, a whirlpool bath, a four-poster king-size bed, and a brass birdcage shower. Afternoon tea is an experience here, complete with scones with Devonshire cream; finger sandwiches of salmon mousse, caviar, or cucumber; and a bevy of sweets. Breakfast may include poached eggs nestled on crab cakes or crepes lavish with berries. This inn is sister to the Adele Turner and Abigail Stoneman inns. Pros: one of the best breakfasts in town, museum-quality artwork throughout, highly solicitous service. Cons: quite pricey.
