Portsmouth

Portsmouth is now mainly a bedroom community for professionals who work in other parts of Rhode Island and Massachusetts. Its founder was Anne Hutchinson, a religious dissident and one of the country's first feminists, who led a group of settlers to the area in 1638 after being banished from the Massachusetts Bay Colony.
