Fodor's Review

See the backyards of Newport's famous oceanfront Gilded Age mansions while strolling along this 3½-mi public access walkway. The designated National Recreation Trail stretches from Memorial Boulevard at the west end of Easton's Beach (also called First Beach) southerly to the east end of Bailey's Beach. Along the way you'll pass Salve Regina University's Ochre Court, The Breakers, Forty Steps at Narragansett Avenue, Rosecliff and Marble House and its Chinese Tea House.

Park on either Memorial Boulevard or Narragansett Avenue.

Excellent walk and views, but trail quality varies

An excellent seaside walking trail, with great ocean vistas -- a must. About two-thirds is paved and easily accessible. Note well that the southernmost portion is in very primitive condition (extremely rough, rocky, and uneven, a major risk for ankle sprains or other injury) and not at all for anyone who isn't both fit and careful -- absolutely no one with small children, strollers, mobility problems, or similar difficulties should consider this stretch.

Wonderful and Free!

The Northern end is a much easier walk and the Southern end is more spectaular.
