For atmosphere, service, and exceptional food, the Spiced Pear is the ultimate fine-dining triple threat. Overlooking Easton's Beach and the north end of the Cliff Walk, this refined open-kitchen restaurant has attentive tuxedoed waiters, an extensive wine list, and a creative New England dinner menu. Selections include a butter-poached Maine lobster and wild Burgundy escargot. Lunch has the absurdly delicious Kobe beef GQ burger. The Bar, which has lighter fare and a
signature martini, hosts a popular Friday-night jazz series.

On a cloudy rainy early summer day, we finished up the Cliff Walk, and decided to venture up the stairs to have lunch at the spiced pear. Oh, my goodness, what a treat. On a massive covered porch with good sized tables for two (I hate the postage stamp tables for two most places have) we had a wonderful lunch. They had sold out of the lobster bisque with whole claw meat (by noon!) so we opted for the corn and clam chowder with jalapeno salsa
instead -- just wonderful. The Lobster claw BLT was a real treat, very sweet and just right in size. We were tempted by the Kobe beef burger, voted best in America by GQ magazine, but we wanted to keep it light. Very professional wait staff, prompt service, and a great wine list. Inside, a private function had taken over the main dining room, but it looked gorgeous and cozy. Christmas here must be spectacular. Upscale and not cheap, so don't show up in cut-offs and your Disney t-shirt and expect lunch, you may not get seated. Jackets recommended inside. Will be back again.
