Fodor's Review

A lively bar scene, intimate dinners by the fire, or relaxing lunches overlooking Newport Harbor can be had at the Clarke Cooke House. The first-floor Candy Store has casual fare and a sushi bar. The second floor has casual dining in the Bistro and cocktails on The Midway, while The Porch and Club Room on the third floor have elegant fine dining with tuxedoed waiters. The refined menu reflects traditional New England meats, poultry, and seafood with inventive twists, such

as a salmon fillet with miso dressing and sesame vinaigrette. The clam-heavy, brothy Newport clam chowder has to be the best in the city. Save room for the signature Snowball in Hell, a decadent ball of ice cream and chocolate mousse dipped in chocolate and topped with toasted coconut.

mediocre food, HORRIBLE service

The service was horrible, the decor is dated, and the staff is very pretentious. They called twice to remind us to dress nice, and so I expected it to be a very upscale place, but the only thing upscale was the prices- my swordfish and my boyfriend's halibut were both very over-cooked, and it took 10 minutes before our waiter even came to bring us water while we waited on the very hot and stuffy roofdeck. There are much better meals to be had in Newport.

Also- two days after we left we discovered that they charged our credit card THREE times. This place is HORRIBLE!!

Waitresses Rule

My experience at the CCH was awesome. The hostess greeted our group and help my family carry our belongings up the stairs to our beautiful table by the fire. We were harried from our day and the waitress offered some selections for appetizers while we got settled. The extensive wine list seemed huge but our waitress' partner another young lady walked us through and made a few suggestions. We had the most fabulous lobster ravioli, and gnocchi and for

our entrees we enjoyed an arugula salad and Tomato fennel soup and for dinner the best filet, chicken dish and salmon I've ever had and a lamb shank I've cont'd to dream about. We finished with a chocolate layer cake. WE LOVE THE CCH and will be back with our friends.

Host descriminates

Denied admittance for not wearing a collared shirt. Witnessed admitted, drinking patrons wearing non-collared t-shirts. I felt sick to my stomach.
