Watson Farm

Watson Farm Review

In 1789, Job Watson purchased this piece of rich farmland on Conanicut Island, and five generations of his family cultivated the land for next two centuries. Thomas Carr Watson bequeathed the 265 acres to Historic New England when he died in 1979. Still a working farm using sustainable practices, the farm produces grass-fed beef and lamb as well as wool blankets for local markets. The annual Sheep Shearing Day takes place on the second Saturday in May, when you can visit the baby lambs, see the flock being shorn by local shearers, and watch spinning and weaving demonstrations. You can also stroll 2 miles of trails and view seasonal farm activities.
