Francis Malbone House

392 Thames St., Newport, Rhode Island, 02840, USA

The design of the inn's main painted-brick house is attributed to Peter Harrison, the architect responsible for Touro Synagogue and the Redwood Library. The house overlooks a private courtyard with a fountain and across the street to the harbor. Most rooms, some in another Colonial home and others in a courtyard addition, have working gas fireplaces, and a dozen also have whirlpool tubs. A sumptuous breakfast is served in a dome-ceiling dining room, and tea is served daily 3–6. The owners also run the Hilltop Inn, at the foot of Bellevue Avenue, an Arts and Crafts house with similarly elegant rooms.
