Cathedral of Learning

Fodor's Review:

Towering over Oakland is the University of Pittsburgh's Gothic skyscraper, the Cathedral of Learning, with 26 Nationality Classrooms, meticulously and lavishly executed to represent Pittsburgh's ethnic communities. The building is used for classes, so there are no taped tours available weekdays during the fall and spring semesters.

  • Cost: $3 with taped tour
  • Open: Mon.-Sat. 9-2:30 (last tour), Sun. 11-2:30 (last tour)

Very Interesting for adults and kids

We visited the Nationality Rooms around Christmas. It was our first time in Pittsburgh, and I am so glad I made time for this gem. You check in at the desk, and the staff gives you a tape recorder and map. You go at your own pace, playing the tape in each room. I loved it. We're taking my sister and her kids (18 & 20) tomorrow and I'm interested to see the rooms without the holiday decorations.
