Society Hill

Society Hill

Society Hill, south of the Historic Area, is Philadelphia as it has been for more than 200 years. Old chimney pots, hidden courtyards, ornate door knockers, and cobblestone streets: untouched by neon lights, Society Hill basks in its own patina. Although many houses are "trinity" abodes (one room to a floor), others are numbered among America's Federal-style showplaces, including the Physick House and the Powel House. Funky South Street, a destination in itself, provides a dividing line between Society Hill and its more down-to-earth neighbor, Southwark.
