Philadelphia Restaurants

Izumi Review

It's a bit surprising to find a sophisticated sushi spot in this part of town—where there's no shortage of cheesesteaks, water ice, spaghetti, or red gravy—but not when you consider the recent hipster and yuppie influx to South Philly. The tiny restaurant wraps around a busy corner of East Passyunk's burgeoning restaurant row, a few blocks south of Pat's and Geno's, and is always packed with South Phillyites toting everything from Pabst to Santa Margherita to drink with Izumi's maki. The rolls range from simple to ambitious—from the solid spicy tuna to the Passyunk Avenue roll, with a spicy layer of crab salad atop shrimp tempura.
