Continental Mid-town

Continental Mid-town Review

You're not sure what decade you're in once you enter the vast, retro playground that shares a name with the Old City martini lounge, also from blockbuster restaurateur Stephen Starr. Line up for a spot on the popular rooftop lounge or sit inside, in a swinging wicker basket chair, a sunken banquette, or a baby-blue vinyl booth. The global tapas menu includes shoestring fries drizzled with Chinese mustard, a gargantuan crispy calamari salad, and a cheesesteak egg roll. Of the retro cocktails, the most popular is the Tang-rimmed Buzz Aldrin.

Spent a beautiful sunny morning outside this trendy restaurant, easily identified by the huge olive on top. I had been to its Old City counterpart for cocktails, and was pleasantly surprised to find this place did breakfast.... and how. With a fellow foodie, we sampled the Tiramisu waffle (stellar, and not too sweet), French Onion Soup dumplings (an interesting albeit chewy take on the infamous soup), and my favorite: Chicken Biscuit. Sounds pretty pedestrian, but it is easily one of the best things I ate all weekend. A fluffy biscuit, fried chicken, and an onion bacon orange marmalade. It was both parts sweet and savory, and went well with the Wake & Bacon Mary - a spicy take on the traditional Bloody Mary, made with "bacon infused tomato vodka". Don't knock it 'til you try it! Super affordable with knowledgeable / friendly staff and rooftop seating (May-September).

  • Big 10 campuses

I thought it might be fun to try to visit all of the Big 10 campuses in a year (or thereabouts).

Anyone have any suggestions for not-to-be-missed campus or area sites?

Thanks for your help. Read more
