Crowne Plaza Philadelphia Downtown Review

Located in the heart of the city's financial district, the Crowne Plaza is also a short walk from Rittenhouse Square and the Market Street shopping area, as well as historic City Hall. Guest rooms have a contemporary beige and deep gold color scheme and sinks in some of the rooms are separate from the bathroom. Guests on the Club Level share a private lounge. All rooms have complimentary wireless service. The Elephant & Castle serves British food and an extensive selection of draft beers. If you're looking for a serene stay, there's a "quiet floor" that bans children and tour groups and housekeeping dares not enter before 10 am. Large groups can make checking in and out taxing, but the refurbished lobby features comfy seating areas with large flat-screen televisions, and a coffee shop and bar are steps away.

Accommodations were fine but encountered very non-caring and defensive staff. A Philly friend of mine wanted to surprise me and welcome me w/flowers/champagne which he left w/a staff person. I never received them. Also, my room was not cleaned and I was told the "privacy" card was on the door which neither I nor my companions put there!

We stayed at the Crowne Plaza for a total of four nights, and it is a basic, upper-medium place to stay. It is pretty centrally located (I was able to walk most of the city in a day), across the street from a Starbucks (for all you fans) and several great local street-food vendors (gotta have an authentic Philly pretzel!!!!). The staff is accomodating and helpful, and they go out of their way (upgraded bed linens, sleep package) to make sure you grab a good night's sleep with them. I would absolutely stay here again.

  • Big 10 campuses

I thought it might be fun to try to visit all of the Big 10 campuses in a year (or thereabouts).

Anyone have any suggestions for not-to-be-missed campus or area sites?

Thanks for your help. Read more
