The displays of exotic orchids and contemporary Chinese art provide a worthy setting for this nationally known restaurant. Foo has won many awards for her cuisine, which incorporates Western ingredients into traditional Chinese dishes. Favorites such as Hundred-Corner Crab Cakes are on the regular menu, and specials, such as foie gras, are offered from time to time. There's a full bar with imported beers and a pricey wine list.

Good but not Great ~ More Hype than Delivery

We tried Susanna Foo this past weekend, and after hearing the rave reviews from various sites and people, I thought we were in for a real treat! There was a good-sized group of us, and the waitstaff was indeed phenomenal. But, the venue was very loud and made it difficult to hold a conversation and the tables and patrons are a bit crowded. Unfortunately by the time we sat down (we had a 7:30pm reservation on a Saturday) the chef was already out of the fish entree I wanted to order. I asked the waiter if I could substitute another fish (any other fish) but keep the rest of the order (I was really looking forward to the delicious-sounding sauce I'd chosen), and was informed that the chef would not do this. So, since I was holding up the rest of the table I made a quick decision to go with something completely different (scallops) and ended up giving about half of it away. I realize that this is not the norm, but was hoping that the chef and kitchen might be able to accomodate me a bit more ~ all in all, a nice restaurant but thare are many others in this gastronomic-friendly city to hit before relying on Susanna Foo.
