Fodor's Review

Georges Perrier can't seem to make up his mind (but thankfully he continues to make great food). A few years ago he took the Versailles-style decor down at his renowned eatery to a 19th-century Parisian salon motif and the servers' uniforms down from tuxedoes to blazers. In 2008 the front of the house loosened up even more with an à la carte menu replacing set seating times and a prix-fixe degustation menu and—mais, oui!—a dress code that allows jeans. In 2011 Le

Bec reopened again as somewhere in between its past two incarnations. Set seatings remain in the past, but the prix-fixe options are back: $80 for four courses or $125 for the traditional seven courses plus the famous, all-you-can-eat dessert cart (which you can order a la carte). A Grand Degustation Menu is $185. This outpost of Lyonnais cuisine continues to set a stratospherically high standard for Philadelphia, and there's still sufficient acclaim to require an advance reservation of a month or more to garner a table on Saturday night. If dinner is out of your price range, Le Bar Lyonnais—down a flight of stairs from the main dining room—is a cozy, charming space that features the chef's specialty dishes for entrées that range $15–$40.

Go to say you have been

The reputation is much better than the food. The small dining room off the larger main room was cramped. While the food as good, it was not exceptional as would be warranted by the price. The cheese cart and desert carts where the best part. I've gone, so now I can say I've been.

Might be Philly's only saving grace

I had to go to Philly for business and while I was not impressed with the city itself I did dine in some great places. I took clients to Le Bec Fin, we did not partake in the tasting menu but that is really the best bang for your buck. Lamb chops were amazing, prepared tableside which was quite nice. The cheese cart was incredible and the best I have ever had. Service was great. Although this is not my kind of place and personally think you can have

a much better meal for less money...it was a nice splurge.

Great but...

Dining here is an experience. The food and service are out of this world. However two real bad things happened when we were there. 1. We spotted a huge cockroach on the wall. 2. One of our guests broke a tooth biting onto a piece of lamb meat that had a bone hidden inside it.

As good as it gets

I travel constantly throughout this country, and often throughout the world, and I would compare Le Bec-Fin to the finest anywhere. The service is consistently wonderful and the food is superb. I don't find the place stuffy at all; in fact, it is simply gracious and delightful.
