Chef Jose Garces’s Distrito is colorful, energetic, and enormous---just like Mexico City, its cultural and culinary muse. The menu features shareable small plates, tacos, enchiladas, and more, a celebration of Mexican street food with subtle fine-dining twists. The mushroom huarache, or flatbread, is topped with wild mushrooms, huitlacoche (a fungus that grows on corn), and black truffle; taco fillings range from traditional pork al pastor (pork tacos) to vegetarian tofu chorizo. Fans of Garces's various restaurants rub elbows with packs of students who flock here for the food and generous happy hour deals, offered daily from 5 to 7 pm.
