Lancaster County, with its working farms, offers a window into a traditional way of life. The city of Lancaster, with its rich arts and cultural scene, can be used as a hub while visiting the surrounding countryside or as a jumping-off point before moving on to explore the area's more rural scenery. Try to spend at least one night at a bed-and-breakfast. Families will want to allocate at least a day or two for Hersheypark's rides and attractions, while history buffs should schedule one or two days to explore Gettysburg, site of one of the most important battles of the Civil War.
