Fodor's Expert Review Historic Farnsworth House Restaurant & Inn
401 Baltimore St., Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, 17325, USA
Civil War-era dishes such as game pie, peanut soup, pumpkin fritters, and spoon bread are the specialty at this historic dining room ($$–$$$). The 1810 building has more than 100 bullet holes from the battle. The tranquil outdoor garden has sculptures and fountains. Each guest room is lushly and individually decorated with lace canopy beds, period sewing machines, Victrolas, and antique clothing. The inn conducts ghost tours of Gettysburg ($9–$16) that begin with dramatizations and stories in the basement's Mourning Theater, and hosts a monthly Paranormal Overnight ($55). There's an art and book gallery and a Civil War memorabilia shop, as well as the more-casual Sweney's Tavern on site.
