The spirited British innkeeper, Lorna, watches over Hargrave House like someone who helped re-create it, because she did. A true bed-and-breakfast in the center of town, the inn is named for stonemason Thomas Hargrave, who owned the home in the mid-19th century, but the original section, in which you'll find the cozy Hargrave House Suite, dates to around 1814. The other guest rooms, which are larger, are in a new annex; most have fireplaces and whirlpool tubs. Feather beds and 600-thread-count linens show the innkeeper's attention to detail, as do her cooked-to-order full breakfasts, prepared at a time of each guest's choosing (and accommodating dietary constraints). Don't be surprised if she offers you a glass of sherry in winter to go with some afternoon nibbles.
