Hotel Oregon Review

Built in 1905, this historic facility—the former Elberton Hotel—was rescued from decay by the McMenamins chain, renovated in 1998, and reopened the following year. It is a four-story brick structure, and its rooms have tall ceilings and high windows. The hotel is outfitted in late-Victorian furnishings, but its defining design element is its art. The hotel is whimsically decorated by McMenamins' artists: around every corner, even in the elevator, you'll find art—sometimes serene, often bizarre—as well as photos and sayings scribbled on the walls. The Oregon has a first-floor pub serving three meals a day, a rooftop bar with an impressive view of Yamhill County, and a cellar wine bar, resembling a dark speakeasy, that serves only area vintages.
