Fodor's Review:

The Drift Creek Wilderness east of Waldport holds some of the rare old-growth forest that have triggered battles between the timber industry and environmentalists. Hemlocks hundreds of years old grow in parts of this 9-square-mi area. The 2-mi Harris Ranch Trail winds through these ancient giants—you may even spot a spotted owl. The Siuslaw National Forest-Waldport Ranger Station provides directions and maps. No motorized vehicles are permitted in the wilderness.

  • Open: Ranger Station open weekdays 8-4
