More than 750,000 visitors annually journey to the largest cheese-making plant on the West Coast. Here the rich milk from the area's thousands of Holstein and brown Swiss cows becomes ice cream, butter, and cheddar and Monterey Jack cheeses. The product is heavenly—one of the true benefits of living in Oregon. Unfortunately the creamery's self-guided cheese-making tour is a letdown—fairly restrictive and lacking in personal interaction. Best cut to the chase and get to the cheese in the expansive store. There's also a selection of smoked meats and wonderful ice cream. Try the marionberry in a waffle cone.
