The Columbia Gorge and Mt. Hood Area: Places to Explore

Gresham

Gresham was founded in the mid-1800s by westward-bound pioneers who cut a trail in the wilderness as they descended Mt. Hood. Today it remains a well-traveled passageway between the Columbia River Gorge and the Mt. Hood recreation areas.

With a population of about 100,000, Gresham is Oregon's fourth-largest city, and is recognized as Portland's largest suburb to the east. Gresham calls itself the "city of music" for the festivals that have flourished there. The first and most notable is the annual Mt. Hood Jazz Festival (www.mthoodjazz.org), hosted by Gresham and Mt. Hood Community College in early August.
