A frontier military post was established in 1863 at the site of what is now Fort Klamath Museum and Park to protect pioneers from Indian attack. In 1973, 8 acres of the original post, including the original buildings, were dedicated as Klamath County Park. In 2001 the museum's main log-cabin building burned to the ground, taking some larger exhibits with it. The bulk of the museum's collection survived, however, and is now in a replica of the fort's original guard post. Actors in period military duds lead interpretive tours of the grounds.
