In the 1920 Jackson County Jail, the Children's Museum has hands-on exhibits of pioneer life and a collection of antique toys. There's an Indian tepee and an old-fashioned store in which to play. A special display highlights local resident Pinto Colvig, the original Bozo the Clown, who co-composed "Who's Afraid of the Big Bad Wolf" and was the voice of a Munchkin, Goofy, both Sleepy and Grumpy, and many other animated film characters. The adjacent Jacksonville Museum, inside the old Jackson County Courthouse, has intriguing gold-rush-era artifacts. The "Jacksonville! Boomtown to Home Town" exhibit lays out the area's history.
