Eleni's Philoxenia

Eleni's Philoxenia Review

An unassuming gem in the Pearl District, this upscale version of its sister restaurant in Sellwood offers an extensive menu of Mediterranean specialties and a delicious commitment to first-press olive oil and fresh vegetables. The chef's favorite dish is the kalatsounia (spinach, fresh dill, and green onions rolled inside phyllo dough). Other surprising standouts are the lahano salata (thinly sliced cabbage and shaved fennel, toasted almonds, and lemon paprika dressing) and the makaronia me kima (ground beef simmered with peppers, onion, tomatoes, zucchini, and garlic served over spaghetti). In the Cretan tradition, the appetizer selection encourages sharing.
