On King's Hill, next to Washington Park's Japanese and rose gardens, this 17-room Colonial Revival mansion built in the 1890s is comfortable and fascinating. A hybrid assortment of Victorian furniture and antiques fills the parlors, and the guest rooms on the second and third floors are charming without being too cute. The two suites with large, private, old-fashioned baths are the ones to choose, especially the spacious Artist's Studio, tucked garretlike under the dormers, with a high brass bed and fireplace. Pros: Wonderful decor and ambience, full breakfast included, complimentary drink in the evening. Cons: Not family-friendly, two-night minimum stay required on the weekends.
